Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Coatesville, Indiana. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, look no further, as we excel in hair testing. Our centers span nationwide, offering hair tests in every city. With 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair, assessments for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other personalized hair testing options are possible.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become a more common method for drug screening. More employers, judges, and Substance Abuse specialists now prefer hair drug tests over the usual urine tests. This type of test is favored by zero-tolerance employers, the judicial system, and those on probation. Its main advantage is a longer detection window that extends up to 90 days, involving an observed collection process and making it nearly unfeasible to evade. Nonetheless, for detecting drug use within the last five days, the urine test remains the most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. It provides an extended history by encapsulating biomarkers within the fibers of an expanding hair strand. When acquired near the scalp, hair can deliver an approximate 90-day detection period for alcohol and various drugs. Hair is easy to collect, challenging to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable in size to a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG add-ons and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is suggested. Measuring the sample on a jeweler’s scale is advisable. If scalp hair is not present, a similar quantity of body hair may be gathered. By head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair, while body hair includes other types like facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of drug tests encompasses four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This process includes checking if the seal and shipment of the sample were accomplished correctly, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing additional data entry tasks not managed by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid assessment for substances of abuse. While it provides an economical means to rule out drug use in most samples, a positive screen must be confirmed for court acceptability. Any samples presumptively positive during Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample is determined to be presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and prepped for Extraction. At this stage, substances are extracted from hair at considerably lower concentrations than with other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluids), making hair drug screening the most complex procedure to execute.

Confirmation for any positive Screening result is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The full laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, offering a longer detection span than urine tests.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is nearly impossible, enhancing result precision.
  • Traces usage trends: Presents a history of drug usage over time, not merely recent occurrences.

Limitations:

  • Unable to spot recent usage: Drugs become traceable in hair only after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests," the analysis actually examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Coatesville, IN
Compared to traditional urine tests, hair follicle testing offers unmatched detection precision and dependability. Its extended detection window provides a much more comprehensive understanding of substance use history. This makes it invaluable for employers who demand meticulousness in drug testing procedures, ensuring a thorough review of potential or current employees in Coatesville, IN.

Hair follicle testing excels over urine testing in its ability to reveal long-term drug use. This difference is crucial for organizations where understanding historical substance use is key to maintaining workplace safety and compliance.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Coatesville, IN
The key advantage of hair follicle drug testing is its extended detection window, reaching up to 90 days. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
