Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug analysis in Denver, Indiana. Our expertise in hair drug and alcohol testing is unmatched, with locations available in cities nationwide for your convenience. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head crown or body suffices for testing. Hair samples can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing needs.

Recently, hair follicle analyses have become a preferred choice for drug testing. Employers, legal bodies, and substance abuse counselors now favor hair tests over regular urine tests, as they offer longer detection periods of up to 90 days and are observed to avoid cheating, making them nearly foolproof. Yet, for detecting drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments are increasingly recognized as a potent means of identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a comprehensive record of drug and alcohol biomarkers within the hair strand as it grows. When taken near the scalp, hair can reveal up to a roughly three-month period for alcohol and drug detection. Hair is notably straightforward to collect, relatively hard to falsify, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) proximal to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assays beyond 10 panels, it is advisable to gather 150mg of the sample. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample is recommended. In the absence of scalp hair, a comparable quantity of body hair can be obtained. References to head hair specifically indicate scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair variations (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary stages in the lab handling of a drug test outcome comprise Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial integration of the sample into a lab’s operations. This involves ensuring that the sample remains sealed and transported correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any other data input not available through an electronic chain of custody protocol.

Screening offers an initial, rapid assessment for drug misuse. Although Screening is cost-efficient for eliminating drug presence in most samples, a positive screen must undergo confirmation to be permissible in legal scenarios. Samples appearing positive in Screening require further confirmation.

Should a sample appear positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for Extraction preparation. During this phase, substances are extracted from hair in concentrations significantly lower than other methodologies (such as urine or oral fluid), explaining why hair drug analysis is exceptionally complex.

For any positive findings in Screening, confirmation is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples indicating positive results undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The entire lab workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation is overseen under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a more limited detection window.
  • Hard to evade: Evading a hair drug test is quite challenging, enhancing result reliability.
  • Shows historical use: It can reveal a timeline of drug usage, providing more than just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Cannot capture recent consumption: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations tend to be pricier compared to alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Despite often being termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually focuses on the hair strand, not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Denver, IN, hair follicle testing offers substantial advantages over traditional urine tests. Unlike urine samples, hair tests provide extended detection windows, spotting drug use up to 90 days earlier. This makes them ideal for environments enforcing strict drug-free policies.

Employing hair follicle analysis ensures heightened accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, which are prone to tampering, hair analyses shield against such actions, making them a robust option for genuine result-seeking employers and institutions.

Extended Detection Window

One notable strength of hair follicle testing in Denver, IN is its extended detection window. This testing can identify drug use for up to 90 days, offering a broader view of an individual's substance history. Employers value this perspective when assessing employees and applicants.

This comprehensive history enables employers to make informed decisions, ensuring they are aware of potential risks and maintaining a safer workplace environment. Hair testing thus becomes indispensable in long-term substance use assessments.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant quality of hair follicle tests in Denver, IN guarantees authentic results. Hair samples, markedly resistant to adulteration, ensure the credibility of the outcomes, providing peace of mind to those relying on them for critical decision-making.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
