Accredited Drug Testing offers full-scale hair follicle drug assessments in Flora, Indiana. Whether you're seeking a drug or alcohol hair analysis, our expertise in hair testing spans across various cities nationwide capable of conducting the test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head's crown or body may be used. Hair tests encompass drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other custom hair testing choices.

In recent times, utilizing hair follicle analysis for drug detection has gained prevalence. Employers, judicial bodies, and Substance Abuse experts increasingly opt for hair tests over the routine urine examination. Employers enforcing zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probationers favor this method for its extended drug detection span, often up to 90 days. Although not the best for identifying recent drug use within five days, the urine test remains superior for those cases.

* You must register by phone or online to receive your donor pass/registration prior to proceeding to the testing center. You must bring a valid government issued ID along with the registration/barcode number which was sent to you by email.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended record of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers within the hair strand's fibers as it grows. When sampled near the scalp, hair can reveal drug or alcohol use within approximately a 90-day timeframe. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of about 200 strands (equivalent to the thickness of a #2 pencil) near the scalp, yields 100mg, which is ideal for testing and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and screens beyond 10 panels, a 150mg sample is suggested. It's advisable to weigh the hair on a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair isn't accessible, an equal quantity of body hair may be used. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, and others).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test follows four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the first step, where a sample is incorporated into a lab's system. This involves checking that the sample is properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary evaluation for substance abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug use for most samples, a positive result must be validated to be accepted in a court setting. Any samples that test presumptively positive in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample shows a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for Extraction. In this phase, substances are separated from hair at a considerably lower concentration than other methods (such as urine or saliva), making hair testing the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screen is done through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive are cleansed prior to confirmation as required. The whole lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug tests identify drug use up to 90 days back, unlike urine tests, which have a shorter detection range.
  • Challenge to falsify: Cheating on a hair drug test is notably difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers usage history: Provides an overview of substance use over time, not just immediate consumption.

Limitations:

  • No immediate use detection: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair testing is usually costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp.
