Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screenings in Kincaid, Kansas. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with centers throughout cities nationwide ready to administer a hair test. Generally, hair on the crown of the head measuring 1.5 to 2 inches is required or hair from the body can be used. These tests may analyze for drugs, alcohol/ETG or offer other specialized hair testing services.

Over the last few years, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated the hair follicle drug test. Employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals often opt for a hair drug test over the traditional urine test. These tests are employed by organizations that implement strict drug-free policies, courts, and those on probation. A significant advantage of hair follicle drug testing is its extended drug detection window, generally up to 90 days, performed under observation to make it incredibly difficult to manipulate. Yet, for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise measure.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a significant method for detecting substance and alcohol use. Hair retains a long-term record of substances by embedding biomarkers in the strands as they grow. When collected near the scalp, hair can offer close to a 3-month detection period for substances. Collecting hair is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion comprising about 200 strands (similar to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. The specimen should be weighed using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, the equivalent amount of body hair can be used. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses other hair types (such as facial or axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of drug test results involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary handling of a sample in a laboratory’s system. This step involves checking that the sample is sealed and shipped properly, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry that wasn’t provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-effective means to exclude drug use from most samples, a positive screening test must be confirmed to be valid in legal settings. Samples that test presumptively positive during Screening must undergo secondary confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. During this step, substances are removed from hair at far lower levels than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most challenging method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening results is completed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive outcomes are cleansed prior to confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • Resistance to manipulation: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely challenging, ensuring more accurate results.
  • Historical usage data: It can display a pattern of substance usage over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent consumption: Drugs require around 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • High cost: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other substance testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug residues in the hair.

Note: Often called "hair follicle tests", the analysis is performed on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing surpass urine testing in Kincaid, KS? It offers superior detection accuracy and reliability. While urine tests are common, hair testing provides a detailed drug use history.

In comparing hair tests to urine tests, the hair method excels in comprehensive substance detection. Its precision enhances employer confidence in maintaining drug-free policies.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Kincaid, KS, is impressive, spanning up to 90 days. This duration gives employers a thorough perspective on an individual's substance use history.

Providing a longer period of detection, hair follicle tests empower employers with an in-depth look at an applicant's or employee's substance use patterns over time.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Kincaid, KS, is a tamper-resistant method, reducing the possibility of sample adulteration extensively. It is adept at delivering trustworthy results that are difficult to dispute.

This method effectively curtails the risks tied to sample tampering, making it a highly reliable choice for drug testing needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
