Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Welda, Kansas. Should you require a drug or alcohol analysis, we are experts in hair testing. Through our nationwide network, we provide convenient testing locations to facilitate your needs. Hair from the crown or body length between 1.5 to 2 inches can typically be analyzed for drugs, alcohol/ETG, among other tailored options.

Recently, there's been a notable uptick in hair follicle testing for drug analysis. Many businesses, legal systems, and addiction professionals favor this over routine urine tests. Ideal for enforcing zero-tolerance policies, these tests are invaluable to employers, courts, and those on probation. Their key advantage is a longer drug detection window of up to 90 days, with an observation-based collection, rendering it nearly foolproof. Yet, for recent use within the past 5 days, urine tests maintain their accuracy advantage.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair testing has become recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. The structure of hair captures a long-term record of substances by encasing biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When samples are taken near the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample consisting of 1.5 inches and about 200 hair strands (approximately the diameter of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg, which is optimal for screening and validation. For EtG, added tests, or panels exceeding 10, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing. If scalp hair is inaccessible, an equivalent quantity of body hair is permissible. When we talk about head hair, we mean scalp hair solely. Body hair encompasses other hair forms (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The testing lab workflow consists of four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the phase where a sample first enters the lab system. This stage involves confirming the sample was properly sealed and dispatched, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not captured by a digital chain of custody system.

Screening serves as an initial, rapid assessment to identify substances of abuse. This cost-effective approach helps eliminate drug usage in most samples; however, a positive screen mandates confirmation for judicial acceptability. Samples flagged as presumptively positive during Screening need further confirmation.

When a sample appears positive during Screening, additional hair is selected from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted at much lower concentrations compared to other techniques (like urine or oral fluids), making hair drug screening a particularly intricate procedure.

Confirming a positive screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives undergo washing before confirmation if needed. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection spans.
  • Resistance to tampering: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, thus ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Historical analysis: It can reveal drug use patterns over time, instead of just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually cost more than other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual growth differences might influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed as "hair follicle tests," the analysis is of the hair strand itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Trumps Urine Testing in Welda, KS
Hair testing offers superior detection accuracy compared to traditional urine analysis. While urine tests provide short-term drug detection, hair follicle tests can track substance use over the past 90 days. This extensive detection window gives a more accurate glimpse into an individual’s long-term substance use.

Moreover, hair testing minimises the chances of tampering or adulteration that urine tests face. With its consistent reliability and extended detection capability, hair follicle testing is unmatched in providing a clear, comprehensive substance use history.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Period with Hair Follicle Testing in Welda, KS
Hair follicle testing stands out for its ability to trace drug use over a prolonged duration, spanning up to 90 days. This offers employers an exhaustive perspective on an individual’s history of substance intake, proving vital during recruitment or monitoring.

Compared to other testing methods, this long window is crucial as it uncovers consistent patterns in drug use, supporting a thorough evaluation of a candidate’s suitability for roles requiring clear-headedness and safety.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Proof Testing Assurance in Welda, KS
Hair follicle tests substantially reduce the likelihood of sample tampering, presenting results that are both reliable and credible. Since hair samples are intrinsically harder to adulterate than other samples, this method is preferred for its resistance to manipulation.

This distinctive testing approach ensures that results are legitimate and consistent, which is crucial for those seeking dependable drug use history. Combining security with accuracy, hair testing is unmatched in maintaining test integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
