Accredited Drug Testing offers a comprehensive suite of hair follicle drug examinations in Willard, Kansas. If you're in need of a drug or alcohol hair assessment, Accredited Drug Testing is a specialist in this field, boasting centers for such tests in every major city across the nation. Typically, you'll require 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body, as it can be used to analyze for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailor-made testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become a more popular method for screening. A growing number of employers, judicial bodies, and substance abuse specialists are opting for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, court systems, and probationary individuals utilize hair tests for their extensive detection period, reaching up to 90 days. These tests involve an observed procedure, making it extremely difficult to manipulate. Nonetheless, urine tests remain the gold standard for identifying recent drug use within the past five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has become recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. The fibers of growing hair strands capture biomarkers, offering a long-term record of substance use. When collected from near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection window of up to roughly three months for drugs and alcohol. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

For a comprehensive analysis, a 1.5-inch segment of around 200 hair strands (approximately the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional screenings, and/or analyses exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample is suggested. We advise weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unavailable, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair only. All other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.) are referred to as body hair.

Process Overview

There are four primary stages in processing a drug test outcome in the laboratory: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample undergoes initial processing within a laboratory’s system. This process includes checking that the sample was sealed and sent correctly, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any other data input not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial quick assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening serves as a cost-efficient method to potentially eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be confirmed for court admissibility. Any samples testing presumptively positive in Screening will necessitate secondary confirmation.

If the Screening stage indicates a presumptive positive result, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample for Preparation in Extraction. During this phase, drugs are separated from hair at significantly reduced concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or oral fluid), hence making hair drug analysis a more intricate methodology to execute.

Confirmation of positive screening results is accomplished using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that are presumptively positive will be cleansed before confirmation as needed. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that offer a shorter detection period.
  • Hard to falsify: It is extremely challenging to falsify a hair drug test, yielding more precise results.
  • Offers chronic use data: It can reflect a regular pattern of drug use over a duration as opposed to only recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Lacks detection of recent use: It requires roughly 5-7 days for drugs to be detectable in hair.
  • Costliness: In general, hair drug tests incur higher costs than other testing procedures.
  • Result disparities: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth variations can impact drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Although referred to as "hair follicle tests", the examination evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When weighing the merits of hair follicle against urine testing in Willard, KS, hair testing emerges as superior. The comprehensive detection capabilities surpass the time constraints of urine tests. Employers and courts benefit from the extensive window of detection hair testing offers, which helps in maintaining stringent drug policies with higher accuracy.

Extended Detection Window

In Willard, KS, hair follicle testing offers an extended detection window, covering up to 90 days. This feature allows employers an in-depth review of an individual's substance use history, facilitating more informed decisions regarding employment and compliance. In comparison, traditional methods do not provide such comprehensive insights.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The rigorous testing method of hair follicle examinations significantly mitigates tampering risks in Willard, KS. By utilizing collected hair samples, it ensures that results remain trustworthy and indisputable. This eliminates the opportunities for adulteration that may compromise the integrity of alternative methods such as urine testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
