Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug assessments in Larose, Louisiana. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol examination, we at Accredited Drug Testing are experts in this field and offer testing centers across all cities Nationwide that conduct hair evaluations. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is needed. Hair evaluations can identify substances, alcohol/ETG, or customized testing options.

The approach to conducting drug evaluations has increasingly involved hair follicle testing recently. Many businesses, judiciary entities, and Substance Abuse specialists prefer this method over standard urine testing. Employers holding zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probationers find hair tests more insightful. The significant advantage of hair follicle exams is their ability to detect drug use over a prolonged period, up to 90 days, gathered under supervision, making them hard to deceive. Yet, for detecting recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and other drugs by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When the hair is cut near the scalp, it can offer up to an estimated three-month detection timeframe for alcohol and other substances. The collection of hair is straightforward, moderately challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of around 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for analysis and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a specimen weighing 150mg is advised. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale for specimen weighing. If scalp hair is unavailable, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be obtained. When mentioning head hair, we exclusively refer to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for processing a drug test result consists of four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary processing of a sample into a lab's system. This process verifies the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigns an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any supplemental data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening provides a cost-efficient method to exclude drug usage for most samples, a positive result necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples with a presumptive positive outcome in Screening require a subsequent confirmation.

When a sample yields a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen for preparation in the Extraction phase. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at a significantly lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug testing the most intricate methodology to perform.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positives undergo washing prior to confirmation as needed. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can determine drug use for as long as 90 days, as opposed to urine tests, which have a more limited detection period.
  • Challenging to deceive: It is exceedingly challenging to falsify a hair drug test, thereby enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical data: This testing method can exhibit a pattern of drug consumption over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It requires roughly 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing is generally pricier compared to alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result discrepancies: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth might impact the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Though often termed "hair follicle tests," the test itself examines the hair strand rather than the follicle underneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Larose, LA, hair follicle testing stands superior to more traditional urine tests due to their extensive detection capabilities. Hair testing identifies drug use over a more extended period, providing greater clarity into substance use patterns. Unlike urine tests, hair tests are less susceptible to cheating, ensuring authenticity in results. Hair testing offers a comprehensive and data-rich perspective, proven more effective for modern testing needs.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle tests in Larose, LA extend detection up to 90 days, offering a longer observation window than other methods. This duration supplies employers with a fully encompassing view of one's drug history, aiding in informed hiring and employee evaluations. Comprehensive detection periods ensure employers have ample background on use patterns, ensuring safety and compliance effectively.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests significantly address sample tampering concerns in Larose, LA. By their very nature, these tests are resistant to the common adulteration techniques that affect other testing types. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
