Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening services within Millers Falls, Massachusetts. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, Accredited Drug Testing's expertise lies in hair testing, and we operate testing centers in every city across the country that can conduct a hair test. Generally, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches on the head or body is required. Hair assays can evaluate for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer specialized testing options.
In recent times, the utilization of hair follicle drug tests has increasingly become part of drug testing procedures. Employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse experts often mandate hair drug tests rather than traditional urine screenings. Hair follicle testing suits employers upholding strict drug policies, courts, and individuals under legal oversight. A key advantage is its extended detection window for substances, lasting up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and is exceedingly difficult to tamper with. For detecting drug use within the past five days, however, urine tests still prove most reliable.

When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.
Hair testing is recognized as a robust method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. It offers a prolonged view of alcohol and drug use history by capturing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When taken from near the scalp, hair can show a drug and alcohol detection period of approximately three months. Hair collection is straightforward, not easily tampered with, and simple to transport.
Collecting a 1.5-inch segment of about 200 hair strands (roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the preferred sample size for both screening and confirmation. For tests including EtG, add-ons, or over 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is suggested. We advise using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen. If scalp hair can't be gathered, an equivalent portion of body hair may be used. By head hair, we mean scalp hair specifically. Body hair includes all other types (e.g., facial, axillary).
Process Overview
There are four primary stages in the lab processing of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning is the first stage where a sample is processed into a lab's system. This step confirms proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody.
Screening serves as an initial rapid assessment for drug use. While it is a cost-efficient method to exclude drug use for most samples, a positive screen needs confirmation to be court-admissible. Any samples indicating a presumptive positive result in Screening necessitate further confirmation.
If a specimen shows a presumptive positive result in Screening, more hair is extracted from the original sample and prepped for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are isolated from hair at a concentration far lower than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.
Positive results from screening undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples that test presumptively positive are washed before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is assessed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

It served as a prominent platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, facilitating groundbreaking advancements in hair testing and analysis. In this special issue of Drug Testing and Analysis, we aim to showcase the remarkable manuscripts presented at this significant event, shedding light on the latest research and highlighting the future directions in this field.
Novel Analytical Techniques: The Verona meeting witnessed the unveiling of cutting-edge analytical techniques, offering enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and accuracy for drug testing. Remarkable advancements in sample preparation, detection, and identification of drug compounds have been presented. The manuscripts in this section presented novel approaches, such as multianalyte methods and on-line preparation which can enable rapid analysis and improve thorough forensic investigations.
Biomarkers and Pharmacokinetics: The identification and validation of reliable biomarkers and pharmacokinetic studies are fundamental aspects of drug testing and analysis. The impact of hair treatments on the oxidation/decomposition of drugs in hair was also explored, as the long-term fate of drugs incorporated in the keratin matrix. Furthermore, the SoHT meeting in Verona featured research on the identification and quantification of alcohol abuse biomarkers, their stability, and their correlation with exposure and other biomarkers.
Forensic Applications and Interpretation: One of the vital objectives of hair testing is its application in forensic investigations and legal proceedings. The SoHT meeting in Verona emphasized the significance of rigorous interpretation of analytical results and the need for standardized protocols. Manuscripts in this section present advancements in forensic toxicology, and have explored the challenges posed by emerging designer drugs and strategies to combat their proliferation. The pitfalls encountered when the exogenous/endogenous nature of a substance is questioned were presented and discussed. The special issue presents also manuscripts that delve into the ethical implications of drug testing in drug facilitated sexual assaults.
Clinical Applications of hair testing are witnessed by the insight on environmental tobacco smoke exposure, assessed by hair analysis in a population of students and the study of in utero-exposure to drugs of abuse through neonatal hair analysis. Exposure to drugs was also important in cases of child abuse/neglect, when the clinical purpose of hair testing merge with its forensic applications.
The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed, and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
