Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Ross, Minnesota. Whether you require a drug or alcohol hair test, our expertise lies in hair testing, and we operate testing centers throughout every city Nationwide, readily providing hair testing services. Normally, 1.5-2 inches of head or body hair suffices. Hair testing can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other personalized options.

The popularity of hair follicle drug tests has surged recently as a preferred method. Courts, employers, and Substance Abuse professionals often choose hair tests over standard urine tests. Employers with strict drug-use policies, courts, and probationary individuals utilize these tests. Benefits include a longer drug use detection period, up to 90 days, an observed collection process, and minimal risk of tampering. However, urine tests remain most effective for recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has been realized as a potent instrument for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. By reserving biomarkers in the fibers of the developing hair strand, hair delivers a prolonged record of alcohol and other substances. When gathered near the scalp, hair may offer up to nearly a 3-month detection span for alcohol and various drugs. Hair is easy to gather, somewhat hard to tamper with, and simple to dispatch.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional assessments, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. It is suggested to measure the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't obtainable, a similar amount of body hair might be collected. In mentioning head hair, we exclusively mean scalp hair. Body hair indicates all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result consists of four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

In Accessioning, a sample is initially processed into a lab’s system. This encompasses validating that the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, designating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data input not furnished by an electronic chain of custody mechanism.

Screening comprises an initial rapid examination for drugs of abuse. Although Screening offers a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug consumption for most samples, a positive screen warrants confirmation to be court-admissible. Any samples that test presumptively positive in Screening necessitate secondary confirmation.

Should a sample indicate presumptive positivity during Screening, more hair is taken from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are isolated from hair at a significantly lower concentration compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging technique to execute.

Positive screening results are confirmed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples testing presumptive positive are cleansed before confirmation as required. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection span.
  • Challenging to deceive: Tampering with a hair drug test is very challenging, enhancing the precision of the results.
  • Delivers historical insight: It portrays a pattern of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Roughly 5-7 days are required for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests cost more than other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Despite often being termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Ross, MN

Ross, MN benefits greatly from the advantages hair follicle testing holds over urine testing. Hair testing surpasses urine tests in detection accuracy and reliability, making it the superior choice. The main strength of hair testing is its ability to reveal a longer history of drug use by analyzing hair samples, providing a more comprehensive overview.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
