In Bolton, Mississippi, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing, supported by our network of testing centers throughout the nation, including every city. Typically, having 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the head suffices, though body hair is an option. Hair testing helps detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other specific substances.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a favored method for drug screening. Employers, judicial bodies, and substance abuse experts now often opt for hair testing over conventional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, courts, and probation cases prefer these tests. Their key advantage is detecting drug use over a more extended period—up to 90 days. The tests are conducted under careful supervision and offer resistance to tampering. However, urine tests remain the best option for detecting recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair sampling has emerged as an effective instrument for identifying substance and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers in the fibers of the developing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer up to an approximate 3-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and other substances. Hair is easy to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch piece of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for testing and verification. For EtG, additional checks, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest measuring the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unreachable, an equivalent quantity of body hair might be used. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair includes other hair forms (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary phases in the laboratory analysis of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary handling of a sample within a laboratory’s system. This step encompasses confirming that the sample was sealed and delivered correctly, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data input not furnished by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of an initial brief examination for substance abuse. While Screening offers a cost-effective method to negate drug usage for most samples, any positive screen requires verification to be valid in legal contexts. Any samples that are tentatively positive in Screening do necessitate a follow-up confirmation.

If a sample is tentatively positive during the Screening phase, more hair is drawn from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. In this phase, substances are extracted from hair at a notably reduced intensity than in other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most challenging technique to conduct.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumptively positive are cleansed before confirmation as required. The complete laboratory operation from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair category and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug analyses can reveal drug usage for as long as 90 days, opposed to urine tests which have a more limited detection period.
  • Cheating is challenging: It is highly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, improving the accuracy of results.
  • Offers historical insight: It can offer a record of drug usage throughout an interval, rather than only recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent consumption: Drugs require about 5-7 days to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug analyses are generally pricier than other drug examination methods.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug by-products in the hair.

Note: Though often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the examination itself assesses the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing triumphs over traditional urine tests in Bolton, MS, due to its superior detection capabilities. Detection accuracy is enhanced with hair testing, offering a broader view over extended periods. While urine tests may provide a snapshot of recent use, hair tests reveal patterns of long-term usage, showcasing their comprehensive advantage.

Employers in Bolton benefit from reliable assessments of employee drug use, as hair testing detects a range of substances throughout a prolonged window. This longer timeframe offers a clearer understanding than urine tests, minimizing the risk of false negatives and substantially increasing reliability.

Extended Detection Window

One of the core advantages of hair follicle testing in Bolton, MS, is its extended detection window. Unlike other drug tests, this method examines drug use for up to 90 days. This extended period allows employers to gain a comprehensive view of an individual's substance use history, going beyond what a short-term urine test can provide.

Understanding an employee's or applicant's long-term drug history helps organizations in making informed decisions. This wider window of detection evaluate their commitment to maintaining a drug-free environment, ensuring safer workplace standards in Bolton.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing in Bolton, MS, provides reliability and unquestionable results. Hair tests minimize the risk of sample adulteration, a common issue with other testing methods. This tamper-resistant feature ensures stakeholders receive authentic results that reflect true substance use.

Employers seeking secure measures to monitor workplace drug use value these tests for their inability to be altered or falsified. This reliability imbues confidence in the results, promoting a fair and safe working environment. Hair testing stands firm against attempts to cheat the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
