Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Courtland, Mississippi. Whether it's a hair drug or alcohol test you require, they specialize in offering precise and reliable hair testing. Available in all cities nationwide, tests are conducted at various centers, necessitating 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body, often sufficient for tests. These tests check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be customized per specific needs.

In the past few years, hair follicle drug tests have become an increasingly accepted method for drug testing. They are now preferred by numerous employers and legal bodies as opposed to the typical urine tests. Businesses with strict drug use policies, courts, and probation programs often opt for this method. The major advantage of hair follicle tests is their lengthy detection window, covering up to 90 days. Conducted under supervision, these tests are highly reliable and reduce chances of tampering. Yet, urine tests are preferable for identifying very recent consumption, particularly within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now acknowledged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a comprehensive history of alcohol and other substances by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the emerging hair shaft. When gathered close to the scalp, hair can furnish a detection timeframe of up to roughly three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, an optimal sample for screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, it is advised to gather 150mg of the specimen. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair is not obtainable, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result primarily involves four stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning comprises the preliminary handling of a sample within a laboratory's system. It involves confirming the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial brisk assessment for drugs of misuse. While Screening is an economical approach to exclude drug usage in most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation to be acceptable in legal proceedings. Samples yielding a presumptive positive in Screening require extra confirmation.

If a sample shows presumptively positive results in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the original specimen and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are retrieved from hair at significantly reduced concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed as required before confirmation. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes scrutiny under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to deceive: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insights: It furnishes a pattern of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapacity to detect recent usage: Detection of drugs in hair takes about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests," the analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Courtland, MS

Hair follicle testing offers several advantages over traditional urine tests. The most notable is its longer detection window, which allows users to identify drug use over a period of up to 90 days. This feature provides a more comprehensive view of substance use history, rather than just recent use. Additionally, hair tests are incredibly difficult to adulterate, making them a more reliable choice for employers enforcing zero-tolerance policies.

Moreover, hair tests are less invasive and eliminate common cheating methods that can compromise urine tests' integrity. This enhanced reliability coupled with the ability to detect a wide range of substances makes hair follicle testing a superior alternative to urine testing, particularly for those seeking to maintain a drug-free environment in the workplace.

Extended Detection Window

One of the main advantages of hair follicle testing is its extended detection period compared to other methods. In Courtland, MS, this method provides the capability to analyze drug use up to 90 days prior, offering a unique insight into an individual's substance use patterns. This long-term view is invaluable for employers looking for a comprehensive understanding of an applicant or employee's history.

Hair testing's extended detection window is particularly beneficial in industries where employee safety and reliability are crucial. This comprehensive monitoring capability helps maintain stringent drug-free policies, ensuring a safer work environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
