Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Huntsdale, Missouri. For those in need of a hair or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is a leader in hair analysis, with testing facilities available in cities across the nation. Typically, a hair sample of 1.5 to 2 inches from the head or body can be used. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other tailored hair testing solutions.

In recent times, drug testing has increasingly utilized the hair follicle method. Many companies, legal entities, and substance abuse experts are opting for hair tests over the traditional urine approach. Employers enforcing strict no-drug policies, as well as courts and those on probation, rely on hair follicle tests. This method's main advantage is its extended detection period, lasting up to 90 days, with collection observed, making it nearly foolproof. Although, for recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a comprehensive history of alcohol and drug intake through trapping biomarkers within the hair fibers as they grow. By collecting hair near the scalp, it can indicate alcohol and drug use for up to around a 90-day period. Hair collection is uncomplicated, relatively tough to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of near 200 hair strands (comparable to the width of a #2 pencil) from the scalp will provide 100mg of hair, which is perfect for testing and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, a specimen weight of 150mg is advised. Use a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen's weight. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. "Head hair" denotes scalp hair exclusively, whereas "body hair" pertains to other types like facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

The process of hair drug testing in a lab involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning initiates the lab processing by integrating the sample into the lab’s system, ensuring the sample was sealed and shipped accurately, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any necessary additional data entry not done through an electronic chain of custody.

Screening conducts an initial assessment for drugs. While it's a budget-friendly approach to eliminate drug usage in most samples, positive results from Screening must be confirmed for legal use. Samples with preliminary positive results in Screening must undergo further confirmation.

For samples preliminarily positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial batch and prepped for Extraction, wherein drugs are extracted at a much lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), hence rendering hair drug screening the most challenging methodology.

Positive Screen results are verified using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methodologies. Presumptive positives are cleansed prior to Confirmation if necessary. The lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is reviewed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair certification and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug testing can reveal drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which offer a shorter detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: Hair drug testing is challenging to deceive, ensuring more precise results.
  • Offers historical insight: It allows for an assessment of habitual drug use over time, aside from recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Not suitable for recent detection: It requires around 5-7 days for drugs to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing generally incurs higher costs compared to other drug testing methodologies.
  • Results variability: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations within the hair.

Note: Although typically called "hair follicle tests", the process examines the hair strands rather than the follicle beneath the skin surface.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Huntsdale, MO, hair follicle tests clearly outperform urine tests. This method provides superior detection accuracy and reliability, making it the preferred choice. Unlike urine testing, which can be easily circumvented, hair testing makes it difficult to evade detection due to its thorough analysis and collection process. As a result, it offers a truer reflection of a person's drug usage history, thereby protecting organizational policies effectively.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle tests in Huntsdale, MO, offer a significantly extended detection window, reaching up to 90 days. This prolonged period provides employers with a detailed overview of an applicant's or employee's substance use history, far exceeding the capabilities of traditional methods. Employers can make more informed decisions by understanding long-term usage patterns, thus maintaining a safer, drug-free workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Huntsdale, MO, the hair follicle testing method stands out for its tamper-resistant qualities. Unlike other testing methods, it reduces the risk of sample tampering or adulteration. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
