Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Riverside, Missouri. If a hair or alcohol drug test is what you need, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analysis, with facilities across all cities Nationwide capable of conducting a hair test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of crown or body hair is required. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

Lately, drug testing methods have increasingly involved hair follicle tests. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts opt for hair tests over traditional urine tests. These tests serve employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and those on probation. Hair follicle tests offer an extended detection window for substances, typically up to 90 days, using an observed collection process that's tough to manipulate. Yet, for drug usage in the past 5 days, urine tests remain highly accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has increasingly been recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a historical record of alcohol and drug usage by capturing biomarkers within the strands of hair as they grow. When collected near the scalp, it can provide a detection span of up to roughly 3 months for alcohol and other substances. Collecting hair is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of about 200 hair strands (approximately the width of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp, offers 100mg of hair, ideal for both screening and validation. For EtG, add-ons, or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is insufficient, a similar volume of body hair can be used. By head hair, we mean solely scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

There are four key stages in processing drug test results in a laboratory: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary stage where a sample is integrated into a laboratory's system. It involves ensuring the sample is sealed and transported correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any necessary manual data input absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid assessment for substances of abuse. Although Screening serves as a cost-efficient means of excluding drug use in most samples, positive results must undergo Confirmation to be legally valid. Samples that are presumptively positive in Screening need an additional confirmation.

For samples that are presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction stage. Here, drugs are retrieved from hair at concentrations lower than those found in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting the complexity of hair drug screening.

Positive screening confirmations utilize GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation as necessary. The full laboratory workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria in addition to accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection period: Hair drug tests can detect drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a limited detection timeframe.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, leading to more reliable results.
  • Tracks drug use history: It reveals a pattern of drug consumption over time, beyond just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Limited to past use: Drugs become detectable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than alternative testing methods.
  • Inconsistent results: Elements such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", this analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.

Thank You!!

I needed a quick drug test for visitation with my children. I called at 6am they answered and set me up with a place a couple miles from my house to go get the test done, that was on Wednesday, I had the results on Friday afternoon and was able to see my kids on Saturday. Thank you for the help!

ADT was able to get me the best tests

Dealing with allegation’s of drug use that completely false is stressful, ADT was able to get me the best tests, going back the farthest in the same day with as little hassle as possible, I spoke with 1 person and wasn’t transferred once, and they took my payment, and got me my work order for a clinic as close as possible for the service I needed. 5*
