In Dayton, Nevada, Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing services. For those requiring a hair or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with facilities countrywide ready to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed, whether from the scalp or body. Hair analyses encompass drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be customized for different testing requirements.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become more prevalent in drug screening practices. Preferred by employers, legal authorities, and Substance Abuse experts over traditional urine tests, hair tests appeal to those enforcing strict drug policies. Hair testing is favored for its extended detection period, up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and its resistance to tampering. Nevertheless, urine tests remain superior for identifying drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of substances by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When sourced near the scalp, hair offers roughly a three-month detection timeframe for drugs and alcohol. The collection process is straightforward, resistant to tampering, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch section comprising about 200 hair strands, approximately the dimensions of a #2 pencil, should provide around 100mg of hair, which is the ideal amount for testing and verification. For EtG, supplemental analyses, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for measuring the sample. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair may be used. References to head hair specifically pertain to scalp hair, while body hair covers all other types (such as facial and axillary hair).

Process Overview

The key phases in the lab processing of a drug test include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the preliminary processing of a sample into the lab's system. This step ensures the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any necessary data entry missing from an electronic chain of custody.

Screening includes a rapid initial assessment for common drugs. Although Screening is an economical method to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive result needs confirmation for legal acceptability. Samples with positive screenings require subsequent confirmation.

If a sample tests positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and set for Extraction. This step involves retrieving drugs from hair at much lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a more complex methodology.

Any positive Screening result is confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples with presumptive positives are cleaned before confirmation as necessary. The complete procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use up to 90 days, compared to urine tests which offer a shorter detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, leading to more trustworthy results.
  • Provides usage history: It reveals patterns of drug usage over time, instead of just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent consumption: Drugs generally become detectable in hair after roughly 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests can be costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Possible result variance: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests," the analysis is performed on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Dayton, NV, hair follicle testing outperforms urine tests in detecting substance use. Enhanced detection accuracy makes hair testing a superior option. Hair retains drug metabolites far longer, offering a detailed consumption history to employers and authorities. Compared to traditional urine assessments, which are susceptible to adulteration, hair tests provide unmatched reliability.

By choosing hair over urine testing, entities benefit from improved substance use insights and reduced cheating opportunities. While urine tests are common, their reliability pales against that of hair follicle methods, especially concerning long-term assessments, providing stakeholders with a comprehensive view.

Extended Detection Window

The hair follicle test in Dayton, NV, covers an extended detection period of up to 90 days. This period offers employers a comprehensive view of an applicant's substance history. Such extensive coverage surpasses other methods, providing a more extensive timeline of drug intake.

Employers benefit from the long detection window offered by hair follicle testing. It delivers a thorough analysis of substance use patterns, important for roles demanding a drug-free environment. This prolonged period aids in safeguarding the workplace, detecting drug use long after consumption.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Dayton's hair follicle tests reduce tampering risks substantially. Due to the collection method and unmodifiable samples, hair tests guarantee accurate results. Unlike urine tests, which are more easily manipulated, hair analysis provides unquestionable reliability, establishing it as a secure drug testing procedure.

Hair testing's tamper-resistant nature advantages employers and legal personnel. It eliminates the chances of sample adulteration, offering confidence in every test outcome. For tasks needing steadfast verification, hair analysis stands as the go-to method, reducing concerns of tampered samples significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
