Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Deans, New Jersey. If you're seeking a drug or alcohol test using hair samples, our specialization in hair testing is unrivaled, with centers available across the entire country. Generally, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body for testing. Hair analysis tests for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other personalized options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has increasingly become a preferred method over traditional drug testing methods. Employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts now favor hair drug tests instead of standard urine tests, as they offer a broader detection window, going up to 90 days. This method is invaluable for offices enforcing zero-tolerance policies, courts, and those on probation, given its difficulty to falsify. Conversely, for drug use detected within the past five days, a urine test remains unmatched in accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol use. It offers an extended duration overview of alcohol and drugs by securing biomarkers within the growing hair's fibers. When collected from the scalp area, hair can reveal a near 3-month period for detecting alcohol and drugs. Collection is straightforward, with minimal risk of tampering, and convenient for transportation.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with roughly 200 hair strands (around the breadth of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg, the perfect sample size for analysis and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels beyond ten, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair is not present, a similar amount of body hair might suffice. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Processing Stages

Four primary phases in processing a drug test in the lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial handling of a sample within a lab's framework. It includes ensuring the sample's seal and proper dispatch, allocating it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any extra data recording not handled by an electronic custody chain system.

Screening represents a preliminary rapid assessment for drug presence. Though Screening economically eliminates drug usage in most samples, a confirmed analysis is needed for court acceptance. Samples that are tentatively positive during Screening need a follow-up validation.

If tentative positive results arise in Screening, additional hair from the sample gets prepped for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at lower concentrations compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluids), highlighting the complexity of hair drug screening.

Drug test result validation is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All tentative positive samples undergo washing as necessary before confirmation. From Accessioning to Confirmation, the whole laboratory sequence is assessed under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 credentials.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Expanded detection period: Hair drug assessments can recognize drug usage for up to three months, unlike urine tests with shorter intervals.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Manipulating hair drug assessments is nearly impossible, enhancing result fidelity.
  • Delivers historical insights: It can reveal drug consumption trends over time, not merely current usage.

Drawbacks:

  • Cannot identify recent intake: Drugs become detectable in hair around 5-7 days post-consumption.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments generally incur higher costs than alternative testing methods.
  • Result discrepancies: Aspects such as hair color and individual hair growth variances can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though commonly labeled as "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand, not the beneath-the-scalp follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Deans, NJ, hair follicle testing surpasses urine testing in various aspects. The most striking advantage is its extended detection period, spanning up to 90 days, which offers a broader perspective on an individual’s drug use habits. In contrast, urine tests usually cover a much shorter timeframe, limiting their effectiveness in uncovering long-term usage patterns.

The caliber of accuracy in hair testing is predominantly higher than traditional urine alternatives, making them less susceptible to falsification. Institutions looking for verifiable assessments are increasingly turning to hair testing as their solution of choice. With a focus on precision and integrity, hair testing has become synonymous with reliable drug monitoring practices.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Deans, NJ provides an extensive detection window that captures drug use for up to 90 days. This expansive look-back period affords employers a detailed overview of a candidate's or employee's substance history, a critical component in maintaining a safe workplace. The lengthy detection window outstrips the capabilities of conventional tests and is invaluable in long-term substance monitoring.

Employers striving for thorough background checks benefit immensely from this test's capacity to reveal historical substance use. This method grants a comprehensive assessment tool for organizations committed to sustained workplace safety and transparency, ensuring a drug-free environment over extended periods.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Deans, NJ, hair follicle tests are renowned for their tamper-resistant nature. This method significantly mitigates the threat of sample alteration, ensuring reliable and unquestionable findings. Unlike other testing modalities, hair testing stands robust against common tactics employed to skew results, rendering manipulation futile and reinforcing test integrity.

This consistency in delivering honest outcomes makes hair follicle testing a preferred option for employers who require reliable substance use assessments. It’s a strong deterrent against cheating attempts and supports organizations in confidently enforcing their drug-free policies, securing steadfast compliance from all parties involved.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
