Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Avery, Oklahoma. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol examination, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with facilities available across the Nation to conduct such tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown of your head or body may be used. Hair samples can be evaluated for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized testing options.

In recent years, the approach to drug screening has increasingly incorporated hair follicle tests. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse specialists now prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are chosen by employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation. The principal advantage of a hair follicle test is its extended detection period for drug use, typically up to 90 days, with samples collected under observation, rendering cheating nearly impossible. However, for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain more accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments have emerged as a significant means for identifying the usage of drugs and alcohol. Hair serves as a repository for a prolonged timeline of substance use by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. When sampled near the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of roughly three months for alcohol and various drugs. Hair is convenient to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides a 100mg hair sample, which is the optimal amount for screening and validation. For EtG and additional tests extending beyond 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. We suggest weighing the specimen using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair is unobtainable, an equivalent volume of body hair may be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types, including facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory process in analyzing a drug test result involves four key phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning covers the initial handling of a sample upon its entry into a laboratory's system. This step includes confirming the sample was adequately sealed and shipped, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and performing any additional data input absent from an electronic chain of custody.

Screening provides an initial swift assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening serves as an economical method to dismiss drug usage in many samples, any positive screen must be confirmed for legal acceptance. Samples yielding a presumptive positive during Screening necessitate secondary confirmation.

Should a sample show presumptive positivity in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are removed from hair at reduced concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug assessment the most challenging technique to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that demonstrate presumptive positivity undergo a wash before confirmation as required. The complete laboratory procedure, from Accessioning through Confirmation, is scrutinized in accordance with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests, which possess a limited detection window.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is exceedingly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing result reliability.
  • Reveals historical patterns: It can present a record of drug use over an extended timeline, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect immediate use: It requires roughly 5-7 days for substances to manifest within hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments typically cost more than alternative testing options.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual growth differences can impact the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Despite often being termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis itself focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Avery, OK, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests with superior detection accuracy and reliability. Hair tests offer a longer detection period, making it difficult to miss any substance use history. Unlike urine tests, hair follicle tests are less prone to tampering, providing confidence in their results and ensuring robust compliance with zero-tolerance policies.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Avery, OK extends the detection window, uncovering substance use for up to 90 days. This comprehensive overview of an individual's substance history is invaluable for employers, offering insights into the long-term habits of employees or candidates, serving as a powerful tool in maintaining a drug-free workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Avery, OK, the tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle tests provides unparalleled accuracy. Unlike other methods, hair samples are much harder to adulterate, ensuring results remain reliable and unquestionable. This level of security greatly reduces any chance of sample manipulation, maintaining the integrity of the testing process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
