Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Cushing, Oklahoma. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing spans testing centers across all cities nationwide, ready to conduct hair testing. Generally requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body, our tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or accommodate other specialized hair test needs.

Lately, the demand for drug testing methods has increasingly shifted towards hair follicle drug tests. Employers, judiciary systems, and Substance Abuse experts are increasingly preferring hair tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are ideal for employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probationers. The major advantage includes an extended drug detection period of up to 90 days, collected securely in an observed process, making tampering nearly impossible. That said, urine tests remain the most precise for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has evolved into an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing strands. When harvested near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection window of up to three months for alcohol and drugs. Collection is straightforward, tampering is challenging, and shipping is convenient.

For optimal screening and confirmation, a 1.5-inch segment of around 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg, the preferred amount for analysis. For EtG, additional tests, or panels above 10, a 150mg sample is advised. It's beneficial to measure the sample on a jeweler’s scale. In the absence of scalp hair, equivalent body hair may be sourced. When we mention head hair, it specifically pertains to scalp hair, whereas body hair encompasses all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary steps in the lab processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

In Accessioning, the sample undergoes initial processing in the laboratory system. This process ensures proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and addresses any additional data entry needs not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial, swift test for drugs of abuse. While Screening is cost-effective for ruling out drug use in most samples, a positive outcome requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples with presumptive positives from Screening necessitate further confirmation.

During the Screening stage, if a presumptive positive appears, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction process. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at lower concentrations compared to other methods (i.e., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug screening uniquely challenging.

Confirmation of positive results is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Prior to confirmation, presumptive positive samples are washed as necessary. The comprehensive lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests detect substance use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer shorter windows.
  • Resistance to tampering: The difficulty in tampering with hair drug tests ensures more reliable results.
  • Patterns of use: This method can illustrate drug use trends over time, beyond just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair within approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than other testing methods.
  • Result variations: Hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Though often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

The advantages of hair follicle testing over traditional urine tests in Cushing, OK are significant. Hair tests boast a broader detection window, capturing drug use for up to 90 days. This thorough overview is invaluable for employers enforcing zero-tolerance policies, granting them confidence in the results provided.
Urine tests, while effective for recent use, don't offer the same extended insights. Hair tests stand out for their detection longevity and are less susceptible to circumvention.

Choosing hair testing over urine ensures higher accuracy with less risk of tampering. Employers seeking definitive timelines of employee substance use will find hair testing to be a superior solution. This method enhances accountability while delivering superior detection reliability overall.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window offered by hair follicle testing in Cushing, OK, is unmatched. This type of testing can reveal drug use history for as long as 90 days, providing employers with a comprehensive understanding of an individual's substance use patterns, which is crucial when maintaining a drug-free workplace environment.
By capturing such an extensive history, hair tests furnish employers with the insights needed to make informed hiring decisions.

Employers gain a more accurate picture of a candidate or employee's substance habits, which helps in evaluating their suitability for positions of responsibility. This extensive detection capability ensures that employers are equipped with crucial information when it's most needed.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The reliability of hair follicle testing in Cushing, OK, lies in its tamper-resistant methodology. Unlike urine tests, hair samples are extremely difficult to adulterate or substitute during the collection process, thus providing employers with a high level of confidence in the authenticity of test results.
This tamper-proof nature ensures that the results obtained are dependable.

Employers can trust the data collected from hair tests, knowing that the likelihood of manipulation is minimal. The resilient nature of this testing method keeps the process transparent and reliable, shielding companies from the pitfalls of fraudulent data.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
