In Blackgum, Oklahoma, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments. Expert in hair testing for drugs and alcohol, we operate testing centers nationwide, ready to conduct hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the head or body are needed. Tests cover drug and alcohol/ETG analysis and customizable options.

Lately, hair follicle drug tests are increasingly preferred for substance testing. Many employers, legal courts, and substance abuse experts now opt for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Organizations with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probation individuals favor them for their extended 90-day detection window, ensuring accurate and hard-to-tamper results, despite urine tests' advantage for recent drug use detection.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as a potent method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended history of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When sourced near the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use over an approximate 3-month period. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of around 200 hair strands (equivalent to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, the optimal sample size for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. It is recommended to use a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. Should scalp hair be unavailable, the same quantity of body hair may be utilized. References to head hair pertain exclusively to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of drug test results encompasses four principal steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning denotes the initial integration of a specimen into a lab system. This process verifies that the sample was appropriately sealed and delivered, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplementary data input not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary evaluation for substances of abuse. While Screening effectively eliminates drug usage for most samples, a positive result necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. Presumptively positive samples in Screening mandate secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is taken from the original specimen for Preparation in the Extraction phase. At this stage, extraction of drugs from hair occurs at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), positioning hair drug screening as the most challenging method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimens are cleansed before confirmation as required. The laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation follows both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can trace drug usage up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a more limited detection period.
  • Reduced risk of cheating: Cheating a hair drug test is challenging, thus enhancing result reliability.
  • Offers historical insight: It reflects a pattern of substance use over time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: It typically takes 5-7 days for drugs to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally pricier than alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: The term "hair follicle tests" can be misleading as the analysis pertains to the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing is increasingly favored over traditional urine tests in Blackgum, OK due to its enhanced detection capabilities. While urine tests are effective for short-term detection, hair tests reveal drug use over a longer duration, providing comprehensive insights. Employers, courts, and professionals rely on this superior method for its accuracy and reliability.

The primary advantage of hair tests is their long detection window. They offer a broader view of an individual's substance use, which urine tests cannot match. This makes hair follicle testing an essential tool for those requiring precise and reliable drug history insights.

Extended Detection Window

In Blackgum, OK, hair follicle testing offers an extended detection window, revealing drug use for up to 90 days. This far surpasses the capabilities of other testing methods, providing a comprehensive look into an individual's substance use. Employers benefit from this by obtaining an in-depth understanding of a person's history.

The broader timeframe covered by hair testing allows companies to make informed hiring decisions. It furnishes a long-term view of an applicant's or employee's drug use patterns, ensuring they align with the organization's values and policies, crucial for maintaining a drug-free workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Blackgum, OK, significantly reduce tampering risks, ensuring trustworthy outcomes. The process naturally thwarts adulteration, making it a robust choice for secure substance use testing. This test's design guarantees integrity and reliability, alleviating concerns over test manipulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
