Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Fox, Oklahoma. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, Accredited Drug Testing is proficient in hair analysis with facilities in cities across the nation that conduct these tests. Hair on the scalp or body, generally 1.5 to 2 inches, can be utilized. Tests can check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other custom options.

Recently, drug test methods increasingly include the hair follicle drug test. Many workplaces, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts now favor hair testing over the conventional urine tests. Employers with strict drug policies, judicial systems, and probation services use hair tests for their extended detection period, typically up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and challenging to falsify. That said, urine tests are still preferred for detecting drug use within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair testing is now considered an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair acts as a long-term record of alcohol and narcotics by securing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal up to roughly a 3-month detection period for alcohol and narcotics. Hair is easy to gather, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample size of 1.5 inches comprising about 200 hair strands (approximately the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will weigh 100mg, which is the optimal sample size for both screening and confirmation. For EtG supplements, additional testing, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. We advise weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, a similar volume of body hair may be taken. When discussing head hair, we mean only the scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary stages involved in lab processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of the initial incorporation of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This involves ensuring that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial rapid assessment for substance abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient approach for excluding drug use in the majority of samples, a positive screening result must be verified to be permissible in legal proceedings. Any samples that are presumptively positive in Screening necessitate a secondary confirmation.

If a sample indicates a presumptive positive result in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, substances are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is one of the most challenging methodologies to carry out.

Confirmation of a positive screen result is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results are cleaned prior to confirmation as required. The entire laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug screenings can identify drug use for a duration of up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a briefer detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is exceedingly challenging to falsify a hair drug test, which enhances result accuracy.
  • Offers historical data: It can depict a pattern of drug utilization over a prolonged period, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent use: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to be traceable in hair.
  • High cost: Hair drug tests are often more costly compared to other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: While frequently termed as "hair follicle tests", the test itself examines the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Revolutionizing drug detection in Fox, OK, hair follicle testing stands superior to urine testing. One of the primary benefits is its unmatched detection accuracy and reliability. With a longer drug detection period, individuals cannot escape scrutiny. This makes hair tests the preferred option for comprehensive substance analysis.

Traditional urine tests lack the precision found in hair testing, often limited by shorter detection windows. Hair testing offers an edge in reliability, providing detailed insights into an individual's substance history. This prolonged detection window offers peace of mind and detailed reports, setting hair tests apart.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Fox, OK, offers an extended detection window of up to 90 days, providing an in-depth view of substance use history. This capability allows employers to assess a candidate's or employee's drug habits more comprehensively. Employers benefit from understanding long-term behavior rather than recent consumption.

This extended detection window can uncover patterns otherwise missed by shorter-term tests like urine. It allows employers to make informed decisions based on consistent behavior rather than single instances, leading to a more responsible workforce and ensuring a safer environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle drug tests present a significant advantage in Fox, OK, by being tamper-resistant. This feature makes them popular for reliable and unquestionable results. Unlike other testing methods, hair tests leave little room for adulteration, maintaining the integrity of the sample from collection to analysis.

Employers and authorities often choose hair testing to mitigate the risk of unreliable results caused by manipulation. The test process ensures authenticity, providing confidence in the obtained results, and strengthening trust in the drug detection system. With hair tests, cheating or sample tampering becomes a non-issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
