Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug testing in Jewell, Oregon. For those requiring a hair or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair analysis, with testing centers accessible in all cities nationwide. Generally, a 1.5 to 2-inch hair sample from the crown or body suffices. Hair analysis can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Lately, the preferred method of drug testing has shifted toward hair follicle analysis. Numerous employers, courts, and substance abuse experts prefer it over traditional urine tests. Companies upholding zero-tolerance, judiciary systems, and probation are commonly utilizing this method. The advantage lies in its prolonged 90-day detection span, supervised collection, and minimal fraud risk. Nonetheless, for recent use within 5 days, urine tests remain more accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has evolved into an effective technique for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of substances like alcohol by securing biomarkers within the strands of hair as it grows. When sampling near the scalp, hair can reflect up to a roughly 3-month detection span for alcohol and various drugs. This method is easy to gather, hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample amounting to approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the girth of a #2 pencil) found nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for analysis and validation. For EtG follow-ups, or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest verifying the sample weight on a jeweler’s scale. If hair from the scalp isn’t available, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair covers all other hair categories (facial, armpit, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome is comprised of four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the first step that integrates a sample into a lab's system. It involves confirming that the sample was properly sealed and transported, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any other data entry not captured by an electronic custody chain system.

Screening provides an initial swift assessment for drug abuse. Though Screening is a budget-friendly method to exclude drug involvement for most samples, those returning a positive result warrantee confirmation for legal acceptance. Samples that initially test positive in Screening must undergo subsequent confirmation.

Presumptive positives in the Screening phase mean additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for Preparation in the Extraction stage. This phase extracts drugs from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug testing more challenging to execute.

Confirmation of any positive test from Screening uses GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. Before confirmation, all presumptive positive samples are washed if necessary. Each step from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standard accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a more limited detection timeframe.
  • Cheating is difficult: Compromising a hair drug test is very challenging, enhancing result reliability.
  • Offers historical patterns: It outlines a timeline of drug use over a substantial duration, rather than just revealing recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Cannot reveal recent usage: Drugs usually take 5-7 days before becoming traceable in hair.
  • Cost considerations: Hair drug tests tend to be costlier than other testing techniques.
  • Result disparities: Factors such as hair dye and personal hair growth variations can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although frequently referred to as "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Jewell, OR, hair follicle testing proves superior to urine testing due to its extended detection capabilities and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis can reveal drug use over a more extended period, making it a more comprehensive method. This extensive insight assists employers in forming a more accurate understanding of an individual's drug use history.

Hair testing is less prone to manipulation compared to traditional urine tests. Its advanced detection accuracy ensures that attempts to alter results are minimized. Companies favoring hair analysis over urine methods benefit from greater assurance in result authenticity and a broader history capture.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Jewell, OR offers significant advantages. It uncovers substance use history up to 90 days prior, surpassing the shorter timeframe of urine tests. Employers gain a comprehensive view of an individual's drug use patterns, ensuring informed hiring and workplace safety decisions.

Hair follicle testing captures extended substance history in Jewell, OR, enabling employers to track drug usage patterns effectively. This method surpasses the limited timeframe of urine tests, allowing for a thorough evaluation of consistent or past drug use, aiding in making sound employment choices.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
