Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Park City, Tennessee. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to expert. We operate testing centers nationwide, capable of conducting hair tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body can be used. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other customized options.

In recent times, drug testing methods increasingly involve hair follicle testing. Many employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals now prefer hair tests over standard urine tests. These tests are favored by employers with zero-tolerance policies, legal entities, and those on probation. The key advantage is a longer detection window, usually up to 90 days, with supervised collection, making cheating nearly impossible. However, for drugs used within the last 5 days, urine tests remain most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is regarded as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Through capturing biomarkers in the strands of hair, this method yields a comprehensive longitudinal record of alcohol and other substance use. Hair specimens collected near the scalp can offer up to nearly a 3-month period for detecting substances. Collecting hair is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and convenient for transportation.

Securing a 1.5-inch section of around 200 strands of hair (akin to the diameter of a #2 pencil) from the scalp supplies 100mg of hair, which is the optimal portion for both screening and confirmation. In cases of EtG, supplementary tests, or evaluations beyond 10-panel, 150mg of the sample is advised. Utilizing a jeweler's scale to weigh the specimen is recommended. Should scalp hair not be obtainable, a comparable quantity of body hair can be taken. In the context of head hair, it specifically means scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (like facial and axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four crucial stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the preliminary processing of a sample inside a laboratory's infrastructure. This process includes checking if the sample was properly sealed and sent, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing further data entry if not available through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening represents an initial rapid evaluation for drugs of abuse. Though Screening serves as a cost-effective means to eliminate drug consumption for most samples, a screen yielding a positive result necessitates confirmation for legal acceptability. Any samples showing a presumptive positive during Screening mandate secondary verification.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is harvested from the original sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are retrieved from hair at much lower concentrations than other types of testing (such as urine or oral fluid tests), which is why hair drug analysis stands as the most challenging method.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positivity are cleansed preceding confirmation when necessary. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation according to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug exams can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a more limited detection timeframe.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, leading to more precise outcomes.
  • Records historical data: It can offer a timeline of drug habits over a span of time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: Drugs require around 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations are usually pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth may influence the amount of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Though often dubbed "hair follicle tests," the examination focuses on the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing is Superior in Park City, TN? When comparing hair testing to traditional urine tests, the advantages are clear. Hair tests offer a broader detection range, capturing substance use up to 90 days back. Urine tests, by contrast, are limited to recent consumption. This makes hair testing a more reliable and accurate method, providing employers with a comprehensive overview of an individual's drug history.

Extended Detection Window

With the capability to trace drug usage over the past 90 days, hair follicle testing in Park City, TN, provides an unparalleled extended detection window. This method offers employers a holistic insight into a candidate or employee’s substance use history, paving the way for more informed hiring and management decisions. By expanding the detection timeframe, hair tests significantly enhance the integrity of workplace drug safety assessments.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Park City, TN, hair follicle testing is celebrated for its tamper-resistant nature. This testing approach greatly minimizes the risk of sample adulteration, yielding results that are both reliable and indisputable. By employing a collection method that is difficult to manipulate, hair tests ensure unwavering accuracy and integrity, which is crucial for maintaining the trust and assurance desired in drug testing programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
