Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Tellico Plains, Tennessee. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol test, we specialize in such testing and have facilities across all cities nationwide for this purpose. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is needed. Hair tests can analyze substances including drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other customized analysis.
The hair follicle drug test method has become more common for drug testing in recent years. Employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals often prefer hair tests over the usual urine tests. Used by employers with strict drug-free policies, courts, and probationary programs, hair follicle tests offer a significant advantage of a longer detection window, typically up to 90 days, are collected under supervision, and are nearly impossible to tamper with. However, urine tests remain the most reliable for detecting drug use within the last five days.

When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.
Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a history of alcohol and drug usage over a long period by embedding biomarkers in the hair fiber as it grows. By collecting samples near the scalp, it is possible to achieve a detection timeframe of up to about 3 months for alcohol and drugs. The collection of hair is straightforward, relatively hard to tamper with, and easily shippable.
A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches with approximately 200 strands (roughly equivalent to the width of a #2 pencil) taken nearest the scalp constitutes 100mg, which is the preferred amount for analysis and confirming results. For EtG, additional screenings, and tests beyond 10 panels, a quantity of 150mg is advised. It's recommended to measure the specimen with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not present, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. Reference to head hair implies scalp hair, while body hair encompasses all other types such as facial and underarm hair.
Process Overview
The laboratory processing of drug test outcomes entails four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning is the primary step in incorporating a sample into the lab's system. This process ensures the sample was sealed and transported correctly, generates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any necessary data input absent in an electronic chain of custody.
Screening serves as the preliminary stage for drug of abuse detection. While Screening is economically beneficial for eliminating drug use across most samples, a positive result necessitates confirmation to be court-admissible. Samples indicating a presumptive positive in Screening are subject to further confirmation.
If a sample shows a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction process. During this phase, drugs are removed from hair at a lower concentration than alternative methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis the most complex methodology.
Any positive result from Screening is verified through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples with presumptive positive results are washed before Confirmation if necessary. The complete lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair certification and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Note: Commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis pertains to the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.
