Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Iglesia Antigua, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol test is necessary, Accredited Drug Testing is an expert in hair testing, with centers nationwide that conduct hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body can be used. Tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized options.

In recent years, hair follicle drug tests have become a more common method for drug testing. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals often prefer hair tests over standard urine tests. Hair tests appeal to employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probationary settings due to a longer detection period, generally up to 90 days. Collection is observed, nearly eliminating cheating. However, for drug use detection within 5 days, urine tests remain most accurate.

What it is, How it works

The analysis of hair samples has emerged as an effective means for detecting alcohol and drug consumption. Hair serves as a long-term record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of growing strands. When gathered near the scalp, hair offers an approximately three-month window of detection for alcohol and drugs. The sample collection process is straightforward, altering it is somewhat challenging, and it’s convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch hair sample, composed of nearly 200 strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil), provides 100mg of hair, which is an optimal sample size for both screening and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those over 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is advisable. It is suggested to use a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen weight. If head hair isn't accessible, an equivalent body hair sample can be used. The term 'head hair' specifically denotes scalp hair, while 'body hair' includes all other types (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory analysis of a drug test involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is concerned with the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s procedures. This step involves ensuring that the sample is appropriately sealed and transported, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and entering any supplementary information absent from an electronic custody trail system.

Screening represents a preliminary evaluation for substance abuse. While it provides an economical means to exclude drug use in an ample number of samples, confirmation of a positive screen is necessary for legal admissibility. All samples that are tentatively positive at this phase must undergo secondary confirmation.

Should a sample be tentatively positive during Screening, additional hair is sourced from the original specimen and set for Extraction. This step extracts substances from hair at lower concentrations compared to other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), which contributes to the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirming positive screening outcomes utilizes GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Before confirmation, presumptive positive samples are cleansed if required. The entire laboratory process, from Accessioning through to Confirmation, is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation in addition to accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug analyses can trace drug usage for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine analysis which has a briefer detection span.
  • Resistance to tampering: It is exceptionally hard to manipulate hair drug tests, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical insight: It provides a timeline of drug usage over extended durations, extending beyond recent consumptions.

Limitations:

  • Recent use detection gap: Substances take roughly 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug analyses tend to be costlier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly labeled as "hair follicle tests", the test assesses the hair strand, not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests in Iglesia Antigua, TX, with its enhanced detection capabilities. Unlike urine tests, hair tests offer a broader timeline to capture drug usage, typically lasting up to 90 days. This provides a more comprehensive view of a subject’s substance use history, ensuring informed decision-making.

Furthermore, hair testing ensures higher reliability with reduced chances of tampering. While urine tests are effective for recent drug use, hair tests offer unmatched benefits, making them a superior option for those needing long-term substance history insight. Choose accuracy by opting for hair over urine testing.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Iglesia Antigua, TX stands out with its extended detection window. Unlike other methods, hair tests can identify drug use over a span of up to 90 days, offering a thorough examination of one's substance history. This capability provides employers an invaluable tool in understanding the long-term habits of employees or applicants.

Employers gain comprehensive insights into potential substance use through hair testing. By covering a 90-day window, it helps in making informed decisions. In contrast, other testing methods often offer limited detection periods, making hair testing the optimal choice for a complete overview.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Iglesia Antigua, TX, hair follicle tests excel as a tamper-resistant testing method. Hair tests significantly minimize the risk of sample adulteration, as the collection process is carefully observed, ensuring integrity and reliability of results.

The robustness of hair testing makes it nearly impregnable to common forms of tampering associated with other methods. This characteristic provides trusted outcomes that users can rely on, informed by scientific rigor and thorough reporting. Hair drug testing offers confidence in test results unmatched by other methodologies.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
