Offering comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments across Phillips, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to for hair drug and alcohol testing. As experts in hair analysis, we boast a network of testing facilities “Nationwide.” Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is required, either from the crown or body. Our services extend to testing for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specified needs.

Hair follicle tests have surged in popularity for drug screening in recent times. Replacing standard urine tests for many employers, courts, and substance abuse specialists, hair analyses are crucial for zero-tolerance workplaces and legal supervision. The key advantage is a 90-day detection window, observed collection, and a hard-to-deceive process. Despite this, urine tests remain optimal for detecting recent substance use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged account of alcohol and drug usage by capturing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When gathered near the scalp, hair can show residues of alcohol and drugs for a period of up to three months. Hair is easy to collect, somewhat resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with around 200 hair strands (roughly the width of a #2 pencil) taken closest to the scalp yields 100mg, which is the optimal sample size for both screening and validation. For EtG, additional tests, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a sample weighing 150mg is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair is not available, a comparable quantity of body hair might be used. Head hair is specifically scalp hair, while body hair includes all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory process for producing a drug test result includes the steps of Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial stage of entering a sample into a lab’s system. This process includes checking that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any missing data entry that isn’t covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening serves as a preliminary, rapid evaluation for drug presence. Although Screening economically dismisses drug use for most samples, a positive result demands confirmation to be legally defensible. Any samples showing a presumptive positive in Screening require subsequent confirmation.

If a sample registers as presumptive positive during Screening, more hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this stage, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening notably challenging to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screen is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Before confirmation, necessary samples with presumptive positives are cleaned. The complete laboratory workflow, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is conducted under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair program as well as compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of Hair Drug Testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug testing can reveal drug usage for a duration of up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which provide a shorter detection period.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Tampering with a hair drug test is quite challenging, which ensures more accurate results.
  • Chronic use indicators: It provides insights into a pattern of drug use over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Not viable for recent use detection: Drugs generally become traceable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests often entail higher costs compared to other drug testing procedures.
  • Result variations: Factors such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite levels detected in the hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand itself, not on the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Choosing hair follicle over urine testing in Phillips, TX offers distinct advantages. Hair testing presents a more accurate and reliable detection method. Its superiority stems from an extensive window of drug identification, which urine tests can't match, often limiting them to recent use. Hair tests eliminate common reliability issues found in urine assessments.Precision becomes guaranteed, with unmatched accuracy in each test performed.

The methodology behind hair follicle tests ensures a clean and straightforward process. They minimize discussion errors often tied to traditional urine screening while presenting a significant boost in accuracy. Professionals find these tests indispensable in accessing real-time considerations and strategic decision-making capabilities, providing a comprehensive view of usage history.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Phillips, TX, shines with its exceptional ability to offer a comprehensive view into a person's substance history. Identifying drug use up to 90 days back, this approach gives employers an expansive look at an individual’s habits. Extended detection windows present unmatched insights, enhancing strategic hiring processes.

  • The broad timeframe opens up richer data for informed decision-making.
  • Employers gain a fuller picture of potential hires or employee behavior.

Long-term insight is where hair follicle testing excels, especially compared to traditional methods. Its ability to detect use over months instead of days significantly shifts the landscape of employment screenings. Interpretations become clearer, based on data that stands the test of time, bolstering both objectivity and reliability in assessments.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
