Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services throughout Leyden, Wisconsin. Whether you require hair-based drug or alcohol screening, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to expert. With centers in cities nationwide, we stand ready to conduct hair tests. A lock of hair measuring 1.5 to 2 inches from your scalp or elsewhere on your body is usually sufficient for testing. Our hair tests have the capability to detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other custom testing options.

In recent times, administering drug tests has increasingly involved the hair follicle method. Many employers, courts, and substance abuse specialists now favor hair drug tests over the more traditional urine tests. Utilized by organizations with strict no-drug policies, judiciary systems, and for individuals on probation, the hair follicle test offers key advantages, such as a markedly longer drug detection window—up to 90 days. This method entails an observed collection, hindering circumvention attempts effectively. However, for detecting recent drug use (within the last five days), urine testing remains the optimal choice.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now perceived as an effective approach for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended history of drug and alcohol use by embedding biomarkers within its fibers as it grows. When harvested close to the scalp, it can reveal alcohol and drug traces up to a 3-month timeframe. Hair sampling is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and convenient for transportation.

A 1.5-inch section consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (equivalent to the width of a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional assessments, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. In cases where scalp hair is not available, a comparable quantity of body hair is acceptable. When we talk about head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome comprises four principal stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial handling of a sample in a laboratory's system. This includes verifying if the sample was sealed correctly and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and accomplishing any supplementary data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid assessment for drug abuse. Although Screening is cost-efficient for dismissing drug use in most samples, a positive screen should be confirmed for legal admissibility. Any samples that are presumptively positive during Screening do necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample be presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is extracted from the original sample to proceed to Extraction. In this step, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly reduced concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of a positive screen result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The entire laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests can identify substance use for up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests which have a more limited detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is quite difficult, leading to more credible outcomes.
  • Reveals usage patterns: It can disclose a sequence of drug use over a duration of time, beyond just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent consumption: Drugs become detectable in hair roughly 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be costlier than other drug testing tactics.
  • Result disparities: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair development can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Although often designated as "hair follicle tests", the test itself evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Leyden, WI, hair follicle testing is emerging as the superior choice over urine tests for detecting substance use. Hair tests offer unmatched accuracy and reliability, capturing a person's drug history for up to 90 days. This extended detection window far exceeds the capabilities of urine testing, which is limited to spotting recent drug use. The comprehensive nature of hair tests makes them an invaluable tool for employers and legal entities committed to maintaining drug-free environments.

While traditional urine tests remain prevalent, hair follicle tests set a new standard in the industry, minimizing the chance of falsified results. Their superior detection capabilities fortify Leyden's workplaces and communities, providing substance abuse professionals with the reliable data necessary to uphold zero-tolerance policies and ensure safety.

Extended Detection Window

In Leyden, WI, hair follicle testing offers an extended detection window of up to 90 days, providing a thorough overview of an individual's substance usage history. This feature offers employers a holistic view of applicants or employees' drug habits, going beyond the limited scope of other testing methods.

By stretching the detection period, hair follicle testing becomes a pivotal tool for discerning long-term drug patterns. Employers trust these tests to capture a comprehensive snapshot of personal substance habits, reinforcing drug-free policies and ensuring a safer workplace in Leyden.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The hair follicle test method in Leyden, WI, greatly reduces tampering risks, delivering consistent and dependable results. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
