Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug examinations in Turtle, Wisconsin. When a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this field and has facilities across all U.S. cities to conduct these tests. Usually, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is necessary. These tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for other targets.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a popular method for drug testing. Many employers, judicial bodies, and addiction specialists now favor hair tests over standard urine screenings. Zero-tolerance workplaces, courts, and probationary individuals often utilize hair follicle tests due to their extended 90-day drug use detection, observed collection process, and difficulty in test evasion. Yet, for recent drug use within days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. As hair grows, it stores markers of alcohol and other substances within its structure, offering an extended timeline of use. When sampled near the scalp, hair can reveal alcohol and drug consumption spanning up to roughly three months. This sampling is easy to gather, relatively resistant to tampering, and straightforward to transport.

Collecting a 1.5-inch segment from around 200 hair strands near the scalp provides roughly 100mg of hair, optimal for screening and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and cases exceeding 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is preferred. It's advised to measure the specimen with a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair not be accessible, a comparable quantity of body hair can be obtained. Our reference to head hair strictly means scalp hair, while body hair encompasses all alternative hair types (such as facial or axillary hair).

Process Overview

The laboratory test processing for drugs encompasses four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the phase where a sample gets integrated into the lab system. This step ensures that the sample was appropriately sealed and delivered, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplementary data input absent from an electronic chain of custody record.

Screening is a preliminary rapid assessment for potential drug presence. It serves as an economical approach to dismiss drug consumption in numerous cases; however, a detected positive in Screening must undergo confirmation for legal validation. Presumptive positive samples in Screening necessitate a further validation step.

For samples with presumptive positives during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original batch to prepare for Extraction. This phase involves isolating drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than with other tests (such as urine or oral fluids), highlighting the complexity of hair drug testing.

Positive screenings undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. All specimens showing presumptively positive results are cleansed prior to confirmation as per requirements. The entire process, from Accessioning through Confirmation, is meticulously reviewed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 criteria.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can identify substance use up to 90 days, compared to shorter spans of urine tests.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Its resistance to falsification enhances accuracy.
  • Offers usage history: It reveals a pattern of usage over time, rather than just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Ineffective for recent detection: Drugs start being noticeable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair testing typically incurs higher costs than alternative methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences impact metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though sometimes called "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Turtle, WI is evident through superior detection capabilities. Hair tests provide a comprehensive analysis, offering an extended detection period of up to 90 days, while urine tests only cover recent usage. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
