Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug analysis in Landis, Arkansas. Specializing in hair drug and alcohol tests, we provide these services at multiple centers across the country. To conduct a hair test, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is typically required. Our hair tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other tailor-made testing needs.

Hair follicle drug testing has increasingly become a preferred method in recent times. More employers, legal systems, and addiction professionals are opting for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Employers enforcing strict drug-free policies, courts, and those on probation are utilizing hair tests. Their key advantage is a significantly extended detection window, up to 90 days, gathered from observed testing, and is very tough to tamper with. Yet, urine tests still provide the best accuracy for recent drug usage detection within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair permits a comprehensive history of alcohol and drug use by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer a detection timeframe of up to about three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair is effortless to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment containing approximately 200 hair strands (roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for screening and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, a comparable quantity of body hair can be gathered. By head hair, we mean only scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test involves four principal steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial handling of a sample within a laboratory’s system. This step includes ensuring the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, generating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any supplemental data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening serves as a preliminary assessment for drugs of abuse. While it is a cost-effective measure to exclude drug use in most cases, a positive Screen result necessitates confirmation for legal acceptance. Any samples marked as presumptively positive during Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

If a sample yields a presumptively positive result in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and undergoes preparation for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are separated from hair at lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is among the most challenging methodologies to conduct.

Validation of any positive screening result is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive undergo necessary washing before confirmation. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and meets accreditation under ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter detection window.
  • Resistance to tampering: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, leading to more reliable results.
  • Historical usage insight: It reveals a pattern of drug use over time, not just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent consumption: Drugs become detectable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier compared to other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal hair growth differences may influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: While commonly labeled as "hair follicle tests", the examination focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Landis, AR

Hair follicle tests surpass urine testing in numerous ways, particularly in terms of detection length and accuracy. While urine tests are limited to detecting recent drug use, hair tests extend the detection window to an impressive 90 days. This prolonged detection capacity ensures that employers in Landis have a more comprehensive view of substance use over time.

In addition to the broader detection scope, hair tests are observed collection processes and extremely difficult to manipulate. This provides a higher level of reliability compared to urine tests, where sample tampering can be an issue. Therefore, for comprehensive and trustworthy results, hair follicle testing stands out as the optimal choice.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Landis, AR

One of the key advantages of hair follicle testing in Landis is its extended detection period, which can cover up to 90 days of a person’s drug use history. This capability offers employers a thorough understanding of an applicant or employee’s substance use beyond the limitations of more immediate testing methods such as urine tests.

By choosing hair follicle tests, businesses can gain insight into long-term patterns of substance use, which is crucial for making informed hiring decisions. The extended window is particularly beneficial for organizations striving to maintain a drug-free environment, ensuring employees' compliance over time rather than immediate circumstances.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests provide a reliable and tamper-resistant method of drug testing in Landis. The collection process, which requires a professional to oversee the sampling, significantly reduces the possibility of sample adulteration. This ensures that the results are not only accurate but also credible and easy to verify.

Businesses can rest assured that the results they receive are true reflections of an individual's drug use habits. The reliable nature of hair follicle tests is invaluable to organizations seeking to preserve the integrity of their drug testing programs and avoid the pitfalls associated with manipulated samples.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
