Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in White Hall, Arkansas. Should you require a hair or alcohol analysis, our specialty is hair testing, and we operate facilities nationwide equipped to conduct hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is necessary. Hair analyses can address drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing selections.

Recently, the hair follicle drug test has become increasingly popular in drug testing procedures. Employers, courts, and substance abuse specialists are now often requesting hair drug tests as opposed to traditional urine tests. Employers enforcing strict no-drug policies, court systems, and probation cases utilize these tests. A major advantage is its extended detection window, which spans up to 90 days, collected under observation, making tampering nearly impossible. However, for drug usage within the last five days, urine testing remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a strong method to identify drug and alcohol consumption by providing a long-term timeline of substances trapped in the fibers of hair as it grows. Collected near the scalp, hair offers an approximately 90-day window for detecting the presence of alcohol and drugs. The collection process is easy to perform, challenging to tamper with, and facilitates simple transportation.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, comprising around 200 hair strands (similar to a #2 pencil's thickness) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg, which is the perfect amount for both screening and confirming tests. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, a sample size of 150mg is advised. It is suggested to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, a corresponding amount of body hair can be collected. In this context, head hair refers specifically to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation constitute the core stages in the lab processing of a drug test result.

Accessioning is the preliminary procedure of integrating a sample into a laboratory system. It entails ensuring the sample's seal and proper shipment, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and filling in any extra data entry gaps left by a non-electronic chain of custody setup.

Screening conducts a preliminary quick evaluation for drugs of abuse. Screening serves as a cost-effective method to negate drug usage in most cases, yet a positive result necessitates confirmation to hold up in legal proceedings. Any samples indicating potential positivity during Screening must undergo a confirmatory check.

When a sample hints at positivity during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample to prepare for Extraction. In this phase, the hair releases drugs at lower concentrations compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug screening notably difficult.

Any screening that tests positive undergoes further confirmation using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS techniques. Each sample testing positive preliminarily is washed before confirmation as required. From Accessioning to Confirmation, the entire laboratory process is evaluated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can trace drug use for up to 90 days, surpassing urine tests with a briefer detection timeframe.
  • Test integrity: Hair drug tests are challenging to falsify, resulting in more reliable outcomes.
  • Provides timeline data: It offers a historical overview of drug consumption over time, not just recent habits.

Limitations:

  • Recent usage: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Typically, hair drug tests cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Outcome variability: Factors like hair color and personal hair growth rates can influence the concentration of drug residues in hair.

Note: The term "hair follicle tests" is often used inaccurately; the test evaluates the hair strand itself, not the follicle found beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in White Hall, AR Hair follicle analysis surpasses urine tests with its longer detection window, capturing substance use up to 90 days prior. While urine tests only reveal recent use, hair testing offers a broader view, invaluable for employers seeking comprehensive assessments. It's an unbeatable method due to reliability and thoroughness.

Advocates of hair follicle methods argue their resilience against cheating tactics, thanks to direct sample collection processes. Urine tests lack this robustness, often subject to adulteration. Hair tests stand out with unmatched accuracy, ensuring employers receive clear and precise evaluations.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in White Hall, AR Hair follicle testing enables detection of drug use over an extended period, offering a panoramic view of an individual's substance history for up to 90 days. This feature is instrumental for employers aiming to maintain high standards of workplace safety and integrity, providing comprehensive insights into substance use patterns.

With its extensive detection capabilities, hair testing allows for a more complete understandings of one's commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. Employers benefit from this method by making informed hiring and disciplinary decisions, ensuring an environment conducive to productivity and safety.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
