Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Archer, Florida. If you're in need of a hair or alcohol screening, Accredited Drug Testing offers hair tests and operates centers nationwide, capable of conducting these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is required. Hair analysis can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific testing options.

In recent times, the use of hair follicle drug tests has grown in prevalence for drug screening purposes. Both employers and judicial systems frequently request hair drug tests instead of the standard urine tests. They're utilized by employers with strict no-drug policies, legal courts, and probationers. A major advantage is the extended drug use detection window, typically up to 90 days, strictly monitored and difficult to tamper with. Yet, for recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the preferred choice.

What it is, How it works

Hair examination is recognized as an effective means for identifying substance use, including drugs and alcohol. Hair retains a long-term record of substances by trapping chemical markers in the strands as they grow. Obtained near the scalp, hair can reveal alcohol and drug use up to roughly three months back. It is straightforward to collect, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

An optimal sample comprises a 1.5-inch length of around 200 hair strands (roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp, equaling 100mg, ideal for testing and validation. For tests like EtG or those exceeding ten panels, 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing. If scalp hair is unobtainable, a similar quantity of body hair can be gathered. Note, “head hair” specifically pertains to scalp hair, whereas “body hair” includes all other types (e.g., facial, underarm).

Process Overview

Drug test analysis in the lab involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial sample processing stage, integrating it into the lab's system. This includes checking the sample's proper sealing and shipment, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any additional data not captured by an electronic tracking system.

Screening serves as an initial rapid test for substance misuse. It is a cost-efficient method to exclude drug use in most samples; however, a positive screening must be verified for legal validity. Samples suspected to be positive in Screening require further confirmation.

When a sample shows a potential positive in Screening, additional hair from the original sample is prepared for Extraction. Drugs are extracted at much lower levels in this method than in others (e.g., urine or saliva), which is why hair tests are the most challenging to execute.

Using methods like GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS, Confirmation of any positive result from Screening is performed. Essential washing occurs before confirmation on all presumptive positive samples. From Accessioning through Confirmation, the entire laboratory process undergoes review under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended trace period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter trace periods.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, enhancing result precision.
  • Gives historical insight: It offers a pattern of drug usage over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent intake: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair drug examinations are usually pricier compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Drug metabolite levels in hair can be influenced by hair color and growth rate variations among individuals.

Note: Commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the procedure actually evaluates the hair shaft, not the scalp-embedded hair follicle

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Surpasses Urine Tests

In Archer, FL, the advantages of hair follicle testing over traditional urine tests are evident, offering more precise detection and reliability. Hair tests cover a longer history of substance use, uncovering patterns undetectable by urine tests. This results in a broader and more reliable assessment, elevating the trust in results from hair-based screenings for both employers and agencies.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window

Utilizing hair follicle testing in Archer, FL, grants the advantage of revealing drug use over a significantly prolonged period, up to 90 days. This expansive detection range offers employers a thorough understanding of an individual’s drug use history, beyond what short-term methods like urine testing can deliver. Thus, the tests support informed employment and compliance decisions with greater context.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
