Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Harlem Heights, Florida. Our specialization in hair testing is supported by our extensive network of testing centers available across the nation, including major cities. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body is required for testing. Our hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer tailored testing solutions.

Recent trends in drug testing have highlighted an increase in the utilization of hair follicle drug tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals are increasingly opting for hair drug tests as opposed to the conventional urine tests. Companies enforcing strict drug-free policies, legal systems, and probationary services favor hair tests due to the extended detection window, up to 90 days of identifiable drug use, and the credible observation procedure during sample collection. However, for identifying recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the standard.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a significant method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a comprehensive history of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal up to a three-month history of drug and alcohol consumption. It is easy to collect, difficult to tamper with, and convenient for shipping.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil), near the scalp provides 100mg, which is optimal for both preliminary and confirmatory testing. For EtG, additional components, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a sample size of 150mg is recommended. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for accurate measurement. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair; body hair encompasses all other (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The process of analyzing a drug test result involves four main stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial stage where a sample enters the lab’s system. This process ensures the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any necessary data input absent from the electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers a preliminary assessment for drug presence. While it serves as an economical approach to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive screening necessitates confirmation to be considered admissible legally. Samples indicating a positive result require an additional confirmation step.

For samples with a positive indication in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for further preparation in Extraction. In this stage, drugs are separated from the hair at a significantly lower concentration compared to other techniques (such as urine or oral samples), underscoring why hair drug analysis is particularly challenging.

Confirmation for any positive screened result employs GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. All samples that test presumptive positive undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. Every step from Accessioning to Confirmation is thoroughly evaluated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair specifications and compliant with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair testing identifies drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection spans.
  • Hard to tamper with: Hair drug testing is challenging to dodge, enhancing the reliability of results.
  • Tracks long-term use: Offers insights into usage trends over time, unlike tests that only show recent use.

Limitations:

  • Recent use undetectable: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to become apparent in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other testing options.
  • Result inconsistency: Variables such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although termed "hair follicle tests", these tests evaluate the hair strand rather than the follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle tests in Harlem Heights, FL, surpass urine tests by offering superior detection capabilities. They boast a significantly lengthy detection window, making them the preferred choice among various entities. Unlike urine tests, hair tests provide accurate results that are harder to manipulate, thus ensuring a reliable screening procedure.

With a robustness that urine tests lack, hair testing provides comprehensive insight into an individual's drug history. These tests deliver far-reaching results, mapping up to 90 days of drug use, thereby presenting a clearer picture for employers and other organizations enforcing strict substance use policies.

Extended Detection Window

Harlem Heights, FL, sees hair follicle testing as an advanced method for detecting drug use over extended periods of up to 90 days. This extended detection window allows employers to discern an individual's long-term substance use patterns, offering a thorough substance history that urine tests simply cannot match.

The ability to track substance intake over such an extended period gives companies a better understanding of a candidate's potential as a dependable employee. It's a crucial advantage in maintaining a drug-free workplace while making informed hiring decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Harlem Heights, FL, the hair follicle testing method stands as a tamper-resistant technique that minimizes sample adulteration risk. Its robustness guarantees the integrity of results, producing reliable outcomes that can be trusted without question, thus offering peace of mind to institutions conducting these tests.

Unlike urine tests, hair samples are far less susceptible to manipulation, enhancing the overall reliability of the drug screening process. This makes hair follicle testing an invaluable tool for employers and organizations looking to uphold strict drug policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
