At Accredited Drug Testing, we offer comprehensive solutions for hair follicle drug testing in Hidden Spring, Idaho. If a hair drug or alcohol test is what you need, we specialize in this field with testing centers in every city across the Nation to carry out hair tests. Generally, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the head or body is necessary. A variety of drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other custom testing options can be analyzed through hair tests.

Recently, using hair follicle drug tests as a method for drug testing has grown increasingly prevalent. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals are now favoring hair drug tests over the customary urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests are chosen by employers maintaining strict no-drug-use policies, courts, and for probationer assessments. The main advantage of hair follicle tests lies in their extended drug use detection window, typically up to 90 days, captured in an observed manner, almost impossible to tamper with. Nevertheless, urine tests remain the most precise for detecting drug use within the past five days.

What it is, How it works

The recognition of hair testing as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption has increased. Hair captures long-term evidence of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. When sourced near the scalp, hair offers a detection period up to roughly three months for drugs and alcohol. It is easy to gather, challenging to tamper with, and straightforward to send.

A sample cut to 1.5 inches with approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's size) nearest to the scalp produces 100mg, which is the optimal amount for analysis and confirmation. For tests including EtG, add-ons, or exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing is recommended. Should scalp hair be inaccessible, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. In the context of head hair, we refer specifically to scalp hair. The term body hair encompasses all other hair varieties (face, armpits, etc.).

Process Overview

The procedure for a laboratory drug test result involves four essential phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning constitutes the initial assimilation of a sample into the lab's processing. This phase ensures the sample's proper sealing and transportation, assigns a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number) at random, and completes any missing data entry not handled by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening performs a preliminary assessment for the presence of drugs. Despite Screening’s cost-efficiency in eliminating the likelihood of drug use in most cases, a positive finding necessitates confirmation to be legally valid. Any samples indicating positive in Screening call for a subsequent confirmation.

Should the Screening stage suggest a positive result, additional hair is prepared from the sample for Extraction. Here, drug extraction from the hair happens at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or saliva), contributing to the complexity of hair drug testing procedures.

Confirmation of any positive findings during Screening is undertaken using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples identified as presumptively positive are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The entire sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the guidelines of both CAP (College of American Pathologists) requirements for Hair and accreditation for ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair tests can identify drug usage extending up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection span.
  • Reduced chance of deception: Cheating on a hair drug test is notably difficult, thereby enhancing the reliability of results.
  • Offers usage trend data: The test reflects a timeline of drug consumption, rather than immediate use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent consumption: Detection in hair necessitates about 5-7 days post-usage.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing generally incurs higher costs than alternative testing methods.
  • Variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can modify drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the procedure examines the hair shaft, excluding the scalp's hair follicle

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

The superiority of hair follicle testing over traditional urine testing is evident in Hidden Spring, ID. Hair tests boast an extended detection window that uncovers substance usage that might be missed by urine tests.
This form of testing renders more accurate detection, especially helpful for employers needing consistent drug-free environments. Unlike urine tests, hair testing resists efforts to tamper, further securing results' validity.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
