Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Christie, Wisconsin. If you're in need of drug or alcohol hair testing, Accredited Drug Testing is your expert choice with facilities available in every city across the nation to conduct hair testing. Generally, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown or body hair is necessary. Tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be tailored for other specific testing needs.

In recent times, the popularity of the hair follicle drug test has been rising. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals increasingly prefer this method over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, courts, and probation offices often favor hair follicle tests for their extended detection periods, which can reach up to 90 days, combining this with a strictly monitored collection process that is difficult to tamper with. For detecting recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a robust method for detecting the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Hair provides an extended history of alcohol and other substances by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. Collected near the scalp, hair can reveal up to about a 3-month detection timeframe for alcohol and other substances. The collection of hair is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising about 200 hair strands (approximately the circumference of a #2 pencil) adjacent to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal specimen for evaluation and validation. For EtG, supplements, and/or assessments surpassing 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. It is recommended to measure the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be gathered. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair refers to all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary four steps in the laboratory processing of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial assimilation of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This step ensures that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigns a randomized LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data input not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening performs a preliminary swift check for substances of abuse. While Screening is an economical approach to determine the absence of drug use in most samples, a positive screen must be verified for legal admissibility. Any samples that are presumptively positive in Screening require subsequent confirmation.

If a sample is presumptively positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, substances are extracted from hair at a much lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleaned prior to confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use spanning up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a more limited detection timeframe.
  • Resistance to deception: Manipulating a hair drug test is highly challenging, yielding more precise results.
  • Provides historical context: It offers a pattern of drug use over time, rather than solely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent usage: Approximately 5-7 days are required for drugs to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than other drug testing techniques.
  • Diversity in results: Variables like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Though frequently called "hair follicle tests," the examination assesses the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing offers significant benefits over traditional urine testing, especially in Christie, WI. The superior detection accuracy is a key reason many are opting for this method. Not only does it provide a more reliable measure of substance use, but it also reduces the chances of tampering compared to urine tests. The robust nature of hair tests makes them a preferred choice for strict compliance requirements.

Another advantage of hair testing is its ability to trace drug use over a much broader time frame than urine tests can handle. Where urine tests are limited to recent usage, hair tests open a window to historic usage, providing a comprehensive overview. This makes hair testing the go-to option for those who prioritize accuracy and dependability in their drug testing protocols.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing is a standout feature, especially in Christie, WI. This testing method offers insights into drug use spanning up to 90 days. This period far exceeds the limitations of other testing methods. Employers looking to thoroughly assess an individual's substance history find this extended scope incredibly beneficial, allowing for informed hiring and management decisions.

Having the ability to detect substances over such a long period gives employers a holistic view of an applicant or employee's past. This broad detection range not only aids employers in making knowledgeable choices but also forms a transparent record of substance use, reinforcing trust in the workplace. This long-term reliability is why many organizations prefer hair testing.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Christie, WI, significantly reduces the chance of sample tampering. Unlike other methods, hair testing presents a highly secure way to obtain and analyze samples, making it a reliable option for those concerned about the integrity of drug tests. This method’s resistance to adulteration ensures the results remain credible and unquestionable in formal and informal settings.

The nature of hair testing inherently prevents the common tricks used to modify other types of samples. Employers and organizations can rest assured knowing the samples remain intact from collection to results. Lowering the risk of manipulation not only enhances reliability but also reinforces a culture of trust and compliance across workplaces where hair testing is standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
